The Nature Trust of BC - Wasa Slough/Bull River Grassland Corridor Habitat Enhancement Projects: Project Manager

  • We are working alongside the The Nature Trust of BC to help project and manage multi-year habitat enhancement projects at their Wasa Slough, and Bull River Grassland Corridor Conservation Areas. We are assisting in the coordination and management of on-the-ground activities including hand-thinning, invasive plant treatments, archaeological work, community engagement, etc… We also assist with behind the scenes contract management, financial tracking and project reporting.

Priority Projects

Alkaline & Cultis Lakes Project:

Bootleg Contracting has been contracted to build wetland exclosure fencing as part of a large ecosystem enhancement project led by the Province of BC and Ducks Unlimited Canada. This project will allow for protection of two wetlands, while providing laneways for controlled livestock access to water.


Mackenzie Creek Trail Systems Improvement- Phase 2 Project (Alberta Forestry and Parks):

Bootleg Contracting has been involved in the development and completion of an Environmental Protection Plan (EPP), Environmental Monitoring, Mitigation, and Reporting for this project.

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD):

Through 2024 and 2025, we will be supporting provincial efforts to detect and manage the fatal neurological disease Chronic Wasting Disease, which was recently detected in BC. Bootleg Contracting is leading regional sample collection, data management and shipment of samples to labs for CWD testing. 


Arrow Lakes Caribou Society (ALCS): Caribou Capture and Shepherding

  • Throughout the spring of 2024 and 2025, we have been involved with the ALCS: Central Selkirk Caribou Maternity Penning Project. This includes assisting with the caribou capture and relocation to the maternity pen, as well as providing shepherd services to oversee the maternity pen for the duration of the project.

Lakeland Provincial Park Trails, Staging, and Canoe Circuit Refurbishment Project (Alberta Forestry and Parks):

Bootleg Contracting has been developing and completing an Environmental Construction Operation Plan (ECOplan), Conducting environmental monitoring, mitigation, and reporting on the project.


Mountain Pine Beetle and Fir Beetle Trapping for the Rocky Mountain Forest District:

  • Throughout Spring and Summer 2024 we will be providing forest pest management services for the province of BC.

Completed Projects

The Province of British Columbia - Kootenay Wildlife Branch: 2024 Ungulate Inventories

  • During the winter of 2024, our team was contracted to assist provincial wildlife biologists during ungulate inventory flights in the Kootenay region. Our team assisted in inventory counts via helicopter flights, providing insight into study areas, and supplying field data for population estimates.

The Province of British Columbia - Ministry of Water Land and Resource Stewardship: East Kootenay Conservation Land Management Program Model - Scoping Study

  • We had the privilege of assisting the Province of BC’s - Kootenay Region Habitat Branch in the development and implementation of a scoping study that identifies, prioritizes, and recommends potential land management models that could be applied to the East Kootenay Provincial Conservation Lands Program. During this process we interviewed key conservation partners, First Nations contacts, organizations and individuals to gain insight into the potential for a partner program, as well as using the opportunity to improve upon any current deficiencies in the program.
